S&P 500 opens flat above 4,200 as focus shifts to Powell's testimony

  • Wall Street's main indexes trade mixed on Tuesday.
  • Energy shares slide as crude oil prices push lower.
  • FOMC Chairman Jerome Powell will testify before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis.

Following Monday's rebound, Major equity indexes opened mixed on Tuesday as investors remain cautious while waiting for FOMC Chairman Jerome Powell's testimony before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis at 1800 GMT.

As of writing, the S&P 500 was down 0.1% on the day at 4,220, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was losing 0.3% at 33,783 and the Nasdaq Composite was up 0.28% at 14,176.

Among the 11 major S&P 500 sectors, the Energy Index is down 1% after the opening bell pressure by a 1% drop seen in the US crude oil prices.

On the other hand, the Technology and the Communication Services indexes both post modest daily gains after the opening bell, helping the tech-sensitive Nasdaq stay in the positive territory.

S&P 500 (ES, SPY) Technical Forecast: 'Buy the dip' still the only show in town.
